Historic & Classic Vehicles Alliance

A Not for Profit body defending the Classic car community

The HCVA is a Not-for-Profit organisation funded by its board and members to provide a strong voice to support and protect the Classic and Historic vehicle world in Britain. The world and lifestyle of Classic, Vintage and Veteran car owners and enthusiasts is under an unprecedented threat, often from sometimes well meaning but misguided people.

As we have found recently from the mis-guided ‘The great Diesel disaster‘, well meaning actions can sometimes backfire. There are very few vehicles as well maintained by owners as are Classic cars, they are sometimes driven only once a year and under strict insurance rules must be limited to low usage.

The threat is clear. Classic cars, bikes and other vehicles could disappear from our roads – banished by legislation.

Thousands of businesses and workers-families are connected to the Classic Car sector in Britain. Over 100 years of expertise applied every day will be lost without yours and other voices!

What exactly are we and you as a member defending?

The foundations of our campaign

For Trade & Industry

The challenges our industry is now experiencing and those coming down the road fast are serious – and in many cases could lead to job losses and business closures.
When the expertise is lost, up to 110,000 jobs will disappear for ever

We have created this non-profit organisation for a single purpose – to do everything that can be done to protect the future for us all.  Our insights, expertise and advice will keep members ahead of the curve on upcoming developments, helping them stay fully informed.

Owners, Collectors, Enthusiasts and the General Public

The British icon MG has a Club with over 30,000 members worldwide

Misunderstandings about their impact on the environment, confusion about rules after Brexit and other issues mean this is a time for urgent action. With the average value of a classic car at around £5,400, this is not just a hobby for the well-heeled – this is a key part of British heritage that is enjoyed by people of all ages and from all walks of life.

Probably the most iconic classic car in Britain is the E-Type Jaguar

What can you, As an Owner, Collector, Enthusiast or Business do?

Simply put, we are creating a powerful voice for everyone who has an interest in protecting the future of classic and historic vehicles. Add your voice together with ours for a stronger voice in parliament. Why should I join?

Our insights, expertise and advice will keep members ahead of the curve on upcoming developments, helping them stay fully informed as they build and refine business plans.

Aside from our campaigning work we are also working to increase customer confidence in our industry – reliable common standards, effective consumer protection and a code of conduct. Vehicle owners will see the benefits of dealing with HCVA member businesses. So joining is a sensible and pragmatic response to what we are all facing. We’re taking our futures, and the prospects of generations to come, in our hands.

SVA Says: We had a decision to make when the SVA were approached to work with the HCVA, because in some ways our aims cross, but both organisations cherish and want to preserve the Classic Car world. We felt it was important to support not only the many businesses we have as members but the HCVA aims and the wider sector. So we have added their voice to ours and yours, to help make those in power understand what is at risk and to make informed decisions when applying laws for the automotive and classic car world.
