How to Sell

We can offer you a professional, inexpensive and effective route to market.

To discuss the sale of an item, please contact us by telephone with full details. You can also request a valuation online here. Our staff will then explore with you our forthcoming auctions, arrange appointments and discuss photography. A complimentary catalogue will then be sent to you which allows you entry to the sale. Whilst submitting a lot for auction is straightforward and our staff will do most of the work for you, there are three important aspects to bear in mind;

1. The Reserve is simply the lowest figure that you are prepared to accept for your item on the day of the sale.  This figure is confidential and therefore not available to potential purchasers. It is, however, subject to commission, if sold. (No sale – No commission)

By way of advice: A higher Reserve may dissuade potential customers from bidding, whereas a lower Reserve is far more likely to generate interest. It is always far easier to encourage people to continue to bid than it is to get them going in the first instance

2. The Commission Rate is subject to VAT and is simply a percentage that we deduct from the final hammer price.

3. Historics Commission Rate – 10%+VAT (Automobilia – 20%+VAT)

(Please note VAT is chargable at 20%)

All lots are subject to an Entry Fee which covers administrative, publication, photography and marketing aspects associated with catalogue production and event management.

The Historics Entry Fee for motorcars is £230+VAT

*Important note: The entry fee for motorcars and motorcycles also includes professional photography.

Motorcycle Entry Fee: £230+VAT

Automobilia Entry Fee: £0

If your lot is sold successfully, remittance will be forwarded to you within 14 days.*

All sale proceeds will be paid into a ‘segregated trust account’ managed by Coutts & Co. This account does not form part of our company’s assets and is therefore secure for the seller and buyer. Besides an interest in renowned marques such as Bentley, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, Porsche and Jaguar, Historics will welcome the opportunity to offer advice, expertise and enthusiasm to anyone looking to buy or sell any classic car at auction.
