Buyers’ guide for those new to bidding at an auction

The golden rule for anyone hoping to buy at auction is to thoroughly inspect the lot you are interested in before bidding as no warranty or guarantee is given with anything that is sold. For this reason the auction venues are open for viewing prior to each auction (please check times). SVA members new to attending an auction to sell their car can ask the friendly and expert Silverstone team to seek advice. Please remember to mention you are an SVA Enthusiast or Trade Member.. All bids are final and non-revocable.

Bidder registration

There is no cost for registering. You can register on-site for a bidding paddle. Bidding numbers are unique to each auction so you will need a new number each time you attend.Should you be unable to attend the auction on the sale day, you can leave a commission bid or register for a telephone bid.

A commission bid is the maximum amount you are willing to bid up to (excluding the buyers premium and VAT). We will execute your bid as low as possible on your behalf.

Telephone bidding will still allow you to bid live. On the day of the sale a member of the Silverstone Auctions team will contact you, usually a few lots prior to your selected lot, and guide you through the process. You can leave a commission bid in the event that we are unable to contact you via telephone.

You can also bid online. Silverstone Auctions has partnered with Proxibid to allow you to bid live on the sale day from anywhere. We advise that you register with Proxibid at least 48 hours prior to the sale to allow sufficient time for your registration to be approved by them.

To meet current legislative requirements you will need to provide two forms of ID. One proof of identification in the form of a passport or drivers licence and a recent utility bill as proof of address.

Telephone bidding and commission bidding

To register a telephone bid against a lot on the website, select the lot and using the Lot Tools on the right hand side of the page, select the “Bid on this lot” link. You will be able to select whether to leave a telephone bid or a commission bid against that lot.

Alternatively, please download the form below, complete it and send it back to bid@silverstoneauctions.comTelephone / Commission Bidder Form
