Legal experts have warned that Formula One drivers could face an increased risk of being sued by disgruntled former managers seeking a share of their high-octane earnings after Renault superstar Daniel Ricciardo was hit with a lawsuit from his ex-agent.

Ricciardo settled the claim earlier this week, and although the terms weren’t disclosed, the outcome was a winning formula for his former manager Glenn Beavis. It could send out a signal to his counterparts in F1 and other auto racing leagues.

The claim was driven by Ricciardo’s move to Renault at the start of this season after five years at four-time champions Red Bull Racing. It has been an uphill struggle as his best result so far this year came when he finished fourth at the Italian Grand Prix in September. Since then, his performance has reversed, and he goes into tomorrow’s Japanese Grand Prix tenth in the standings. It has been equally challenging away from the track. From a piece by Christian Sylt.
